Technology Network NFDI4BIOIMAGE - Heidelberg

In the era when vast amounts of data are collected and processed everyday in order to advance knowledge and support scientific research, it has become increasingly important to develop and implement best practices in Research Data Management (RDM). A prime example is data collected through imaging methods which is crucial across various scientific disciplines, particularly in life sciences, and key in studies ranging from single molecules to whole organisms. However, the complexity and sheer volume of bio-image data present significant challenges. Managing and analysing this data efficiently requires well-defined image processing tools and analysis pipelines that align with the FAIR principles—a collection of standard guidelines to ensure data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable across different domains.

The NFDI4BIOIMAGE is a consortium within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany where collaborating institutions across the nation, including Heidelberg University, advance the core mission of enabling FAIR bio-image RDM for researchers in Germany and beyond.

In doing so, Heidelberg University and its Computing Centre (URZ) offer researchers access to a local instance of OMERO which is an open source software for bio-image data management created by the Open Microscopy Environment (OME) consortium. The service is currently in the pilot phase where new users are actively encouraged to sign up for accounts, integrate the software in their workflows and provide their feedback for further improvements. The NFDI4BIOIMAGE team in Heidelberg also offers regular workshops and training support for OMERO to the users, students and interested researchers at various stages.

If you are interested, please use the contact information below to inform us. We are happy to discuss your individual needs, address any questions and guide you in your steps toward FAIR bio-imaging RDM practices.
