Core Facility – INBC Interdisciplinary Neurobehavioral Core

The Interdisciplinary Neurobehavioral Core (INBC) of Heidelberg University is a multidisciplinary in vivo platform that provides a state-of-the-art facility, infrastructure and assistance for the entire neuroscience community for addressing functional consequences of molecular, cellular and network manipulations at the whole organismal level, combining behavioural analyses, optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology and surgery. One of its main goals is to facilitate collaborative projects between basic scientists and clinically-oriented researchers allowing exchange of knowledge and dissemination of innovative ideas.

The INBC offers a satellite facility for space, equipment, expert support for rodent studies. We are a self-service facility where scientist can come and work themselves on their projects We are happy to discuss your project and will provide you with a cost estimation. Anyone will be fully trained before he can work at our facility. For the most up to date information, please also check the INBC website:

Fees

Pricing for Academic Users

The Interdisciplinary Neurobehavioral Core (INBC) was introduced in July 2013 via 'innovation funds' from the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg to Prof. Rohini Kuner, Prof. Sabine Herpertz and Prof. Wolfgang Wick and core funding provided by the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.

User fees ensure to keep the core operational and sustainable. The user fees only cover the operating costs (maintenance of equipment and consumables, and animal housing).

The principal investigator will receive the invoice per university post after completion of the experiment or quarterly.

1) Users are charged an hourly fee for all use of the equipment:

Services & Equipment

Services

We provide a state-of-the-art in vivo facility and comprehensive assistance for the entire neuroscience community, with excellence in rodent behavioral studies and a strong dedication to service. Our team strives for the highest quality standards in animal experiments, particularly in behavioral studies and surgical manipulations, while strictly adhering to all EU regulations for animal protection and the principles of the 3Rs. We actively facilitate collaborative projects between fundamental scientists and clinical researchers.

To further support research activities, the INBC offers dedicated space, state-of-the-art equipment, and expert support for rodent studies. We provide advanced assistance with dozens of preclinical rodent models and associated surgical procedures, as well as support in experiment planning and execution, animal ethics license applications, and data analysis and management. While originally focused on neuroscience, our repertoire has recently expanded to include models for metabolic disorders (such as diabetes), cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and more.
